In response to concerns from the Government of Greenland over the potential remobilization of its contaminants by climate change, the Government of Denmark established the Camp Century Climate Monitoring Programme in 2017. Climate and ice monitoring instruments were established at Camp Century in summer 2017. The sub-surface debris field was also surveyed by ice-penetrating radar. This monitoring programme aims to refine knowledge of the spatial extent and vertical range of the debris field, as well as project changes in meltwater production and near-surface ice-sheet structure in response to climate change, in order to inform science-based discussions of the shifting fate of Camp Century.
